Recent shifts in global economies, changing markets and the emergence of unsustainable fibres have significantly impacted the Irish-grown wool industry. The Irish Grown Wool Council (IGWC) was formed in April 2023, following a recommendation from the publication of the ‘Review Of Market Opportunities For Irish-Grown Wool- Based Products’ from the Department Of Agriculture, Food And The Marine. We believe there is significant potential to add value all along the supply chain and advance innovation in Irish grown wool across a wide range of sectors.

We are developing collaborations to apply innovative solutions to address current challenges and create pioneering innovation in bio-fibers and sustainable practices. We work with farmers, industry, enterprise, education, general public, media, partners, agencies and research providing organisations and Governments, (nationally and internationally). We have big ambitions for the development of the Irish grown wool sector, which includes approximately 50,000 sheep farming families nationwide as stakeholders.

Join us at Bord Bia Bloom and see a selection of innovative Irish grown wool products.
